Melbourne Business School is the graduate business school of the University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The School offers an MBA program, specialist Masters programs, a doctoral program, and executive education programs.
Task

- Revive an existing courtyard that had to compliment the new cafe & dining complex.
- Work with the existing slope & incorporate the established Chinese Elm trees.
- Provide useable areas for student gathering/group meetings & functions
Our Solution

- Simple use of composite deck material for external flooring & raised decking allowed for the construction of on grade access to the Hub cafe as well as forming benched platforms for casual seating & group gathering.
- The pot lined stage area to the East signifies a more formal function space & created a great backdrop to the Gadsden Dining Room.
- Recessed deck lighting highlights the tree canopy at nite.
- Planting is simple helping form subtle divisions of spaces & adding blocks of texture, softening the hard surrounding edges & creating a better human scale to the courtyard.
