The Task
To provide a landscape that compliments a contemporary renovation of a Victorian residence and reflects the lifestyle of the owner. The brief also included creating a seamless transition from the inside to out; a swimming pool as a prominent feature that didn’t completely overtake the rear garden; room to entertain; and an informal leafy garden with a resort feel.
Our Solution
The layout of the pool was crucial in this design, and by aligning to the side boundary the pool became part of the overall landscape – a strong element in the backyard without being overpowering. The difference in level of the rear garden has in this case been embraced by adding other elements such as the pool and deck. The raised level of the pool has reinforced the site’s relationship with the house. The fudging of boundaries with lush planting and the use of ‘borrowed landscapes’ i.e. neighbouring trees, gives this landscape a sense of grandeur.
