The Task.

Our client wanted to make better use of what was currently an underused back area, incorporating a modern style pool with new renovations to the rear of the house and also maximizing an open space of natural lawn and paving. The existing conditions of the site created some challenges, including a steep area retained with volcanic rocks and an existing kidney shaped pool.

Our Solution.

We formed three terraces into the existing slope. The main terrace consisted of a paved and grassed area directly accessible from the newly extended living area. A pool concourse area, accessible via masonry steps, provided a designated paved and seating area for poolside activities. The upper terrace, with a sprayed concrete retaining wall, held large sloped garden beds. The project also involved the repositioning of pool equipment, demolition of an existing pool and the construction of a new pool. Works included recycled timber benches, a pool ‘boardwalk’, custom built storage benches, feature timber screens, and custom designed galvanised steel pool fencing. We also provided a 12,000 litre water storage tank under the grass terrace.

The Task.

We were initially engaged as design consultants and worked with a range of stakeholders to navigate an acceptable town planning proposal for the pontoon and deck work on the banks of the Yarra. Our solution As landscape architects we provided digital documentation and managed the planning and building approval process. The planning process for this work took over 4 years to complete. Once our engagement as design consultants was completed we were then engaged to manage the construction of the pontoon and deck. The planting design and implementation were completed in conjunction with the main construction works, with mature pencil pines and complementary under-storey plants to finish the landscapes.
